Grave, Tiperui Communal Cemetery of Sergeant Roy Leslie appeared in the Weekly News, 3 January 1918. The caption read: 'New Zealander's Grave well cared for at Papeete: The resting place of the late Sergeant Roy J. Leslie of Auckland. The late Sergeant R.J. Leslie died on a hospital ship coming to New Zealand, and was buried at Papeete. The Governor of Tahiti took a great interest in the case, and besides giving the plot for interment, went to the trouble and expense of erecting a suitable monument over the grave.' - No known copyright restrictions

  • Roy Leslie was the son of David Kirkwood Anderson and Rose Ann Leslie, of "Tahiti," Lynton Avenue, Auckland, New Zealand. Born at Hawera, New Zealand.

    His brother, James Leslie (14444), also died in World War 1.

    A commemorative ceremony has been held each Anzac Day from about 2005 with New Zealand's Honorary Consulate, Australian Consulate and the French Armed Forces. AWMM
