  • NZTSM. awarded as a 2nd Lieutenant, with the 5th (Otago Hussars) Mounted Rifles, 27 May 1913 Memo 2/1070

    He was Captain from 12 March 1917 with the Otago Regiment as a Company Commander

    He returned to New Zealand to recover from his wounds. He had part of the ear shot off and bullet - shrapnel wound to the elbow. He had his arm in a metal frame for a time after the war and spent a considerable time, years, recuperating in Dunedin. He didn't go back to the Maniatoto to farm until about 1921 - 22 or so.

    His son, 2nd Lieutenant F.F. Greer (427180) served in the Otago Mounted Rifles pre WW2 and 18th Armoured Regiment and was killed on active service in Italy.
