  • Son of Charles A. J. and Helen R. Levett, of Ranfurly Road, Feilding.

"Killed in action on March 30th, 1918, while fighting in Palestine, left School in 1907 after five years here. He was never distinguished as an athlete, though at all times extremely popular. After leaving he served in the 6th Manawatu Mounted Rifles for some years, exhibiting great keenness in military affairs generally. He was in the Shooting VIII. during his last year here, and eager to enlist in the early stages of the war. He had, however, to wait until his father returned from England, and left New Zealand finally with the 16th Reinforcements as a trooper, being drafted on arrival in Egypt to the 16th New Zealand Company of the Imperial Camel Corps, which distinguished itself in the capture of Beersheba and Gaza. He was promoted to Sergeant on the field, and killed at Amonan, 25 miles east of the Jordan, being buried by an old friend and school-fellow." (In Memoriam, 1914-1918 [Wanganui Collegiate School])

Moeraki then transhipped to "Mooltan" at Sydney for Suez. AWMM
