  • Son of Alfred John Smith. Husband of May Geraldine (Briant) Smith 1898-1979; father of three children including Evelyn, Charles and Margaret

    Injured at Passchendaele

    After recovering he was seconded to the YMCA in France to help sort out the financial affairs. His daughter writes the system he designed for the accounts was again used by the YMCA in WW2.

    At the end of the war he was offered employment with the YMCA auditors in Wellington but turned it down because of ill health.

    Charles went on to build up a successful accountancy practice.

    Served as a Major with the Gisborne Battalion of the Home Guard in WW2 AWMM
