    Promoted Sergeant, 20 November 1916.
    Embarked Wellington, 14 March 1917; disembarked Devonport, England, 21 May 1917, marched in to Sling Camp, posted to 5th Reserve Bn, New Zealand Rifle Brigade, and reverted to rank of Corporal.
    Failed to qualify, reverted to ranks, 25 June 1917.
    Transferred from D Company, 6th Reserve Bn, New Zealand Rifle Brigade, to Machine Gun Section; marched in to Grantham, 2 July 1917.
    Promoted Temporary Corporal, 4 July 1917.
    Appointed Acting Sergeant while employed in pay duties, Grantham, 25 October 1917.
