    • Harold was the youngest child and 2nd son of Robert and Martha Hattaway, Hawthorne Farm, Howick.
      Born in 1895, he attended the old Pakuranga School.
      He was enlisted in the 24th Reinforcements Mounted Rifles in November 1916 and served in Egypt from early 1917 until the end of WWI. During his service he contracted malaria.
      On his discharge in 1919, Harold returned to farming when he arrived home and led a very productive life despite his experience. He was active in the community and continued his interest in, and work with horses.
      Harold married Beatrice Sivewright in 1926. They had three children and when Beatrice died he married Jean Knight.
