  • I would like to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the date that Fred Beachen was killed at Messines, Belgium 13/03/1917. Fred was the older brother of my grand mother Francis May Beachen whose married name was McGaffin. They grew up in rural Hawkes Bay, New Zealand in the district of Elsethorpe. Fred is remembered in the Waipawa museum along with other WW1 soldiers from that area. His resting place is Berkes Cemetry Extension, Ploegsteert Wood, Messines. This tribute is also posted on behalf of my late father Norman (Mac) who served in WW2. Lest we forget.
