  • Hereward Ludbrook was the son of Henry Samuel Ludbrook and Hana Ludbrook (nee Kinsella), of Ohaewai, Bay of Islands, New Zealand. Age at death listed on CWGC as 21.

"Who died of wounds received in France, was at School until 1913. He left New Zealand on New Year's Day, 1918, in the 33rd Specialists, landing in England at the time the great German offensive was at its height, and every man was needed. He willingly abandoned his stripes and volunteered for the N.Z.R.B., leaving for France in just over a month. He received his promotion to Sergeant in the field, was badly wounded in the right arm on September 8th, 1918, having to undergo amputation of the shattered limb. Before he came here he was educated at Huntly School, and on leaving went through a course at Lincoln College to fit him for work on his father's farm." (In Memoriam, 1914-1918 [Wanganui Collegiate School])
