  • One of the 50 Tūhoe soldiers who fought in WW1. Warahoe. Pvt. World War 1, 1914-1918, sn 19641, 16th Reinforcements Māori Contingent, embarked 26-April-1917 for Plymouth England. Labourer, next of kin - Wi and Raiha Te Horohau Tawari (aka Tawari Te Horohau) (father), Te Whaiti; aged 22 when he enlisted in 1917, dcd 19-Mar-1964 age 77Y in Ruatahuna (Charles Timutimu Research Project).

    Urewera Lands Consolidation Scheme (Report of Commissioners as to position of). Appendix to the Journals of the House of Representatives, 1924 Session I, G-07."At a sitting of the Commission at Ruatoki in April last it was stated that a number of the Urewera Natives sold their lands prior to enlisting for the war; those who returned now find themselves landless, and they ask that the Crown give them land so that they may not be a burden on the members of their families." Te Horohau was listed as one of these men. AWMM

  • Wiki or Wikiriwhi Te Horohau is my 'Koro' (Grandfather) and I am so honoured that he contributed his life to the Great War and made it back home as a Returned Servicemen. I have laid a poppy in remembrance of you Koro 'Wi' "I will never forget".
