From your grandson. I never met you but I am immensely proud of your service. The War took an enormous toll on you physically and psychologically but you survived, thankfully. You came home and ten years later my mother was born. I'm glad you survived the immense horror that was the Somme. I know that you watched your best friend being shot and that you never recovered from that. I don't know how you picked yourself up after that and kept going, but you did.
