  • Embarked Wellington on board HMNZT 'Turakina', 26 April 1917; admitted to ship's hospital, at sea, 4 June 1917; discharged from ship's hospital, 9 June 1917; disembarked Devonport, England, 20 July 1917, and marched into Sling Camp.
    Proceeded overseas to France, 14 September 1917; joined 4th Bn, New Zealand Rifle Brigade, in the field, 8 October 1917, and posted to C Company.
    Wounded in action, 12 October 1917 (foot, mild); admitted to 3rd Australian Field Ambulance, 13 October 1917, and transferred same day to 17th Casualty Clearing Station; to NZ Convalescent Depot, Etaples, 25 October 1917; to No 14 Convalescent Depot, Trouville, 26 October 1917; rejoined unit, in the field, 17 January 1918.
    Wounded in action (second occasion), 5 April 1918; remained at duty.
    Detached to Tunnelling Company, 2 July 1918; rejoined unit from detachment, 7 September 1918.
    On leave to United Kingdom, 16 October 1918.
    Commenced return to New Zealand from London on board HT 'Waimana', 10 May 1919; disembarked Auckland, 23 June 1919; discharged, 21 July 1919.
    Total war service: 2 years 181 days (of which 2 years 59 days were abroad)
