  • Dawn parade today was amazing and a feeling of what you Poppa and all endured . Your bravery, your strength and the times that you all had to live through. Hopefully generations to come will find ways to resolve issues, watching the TV doc and hearing the stories of War , we are so lucky and appreciate more what had to be done in those times to save and protect. I remember you as a tall strong man and wish time would have allowed to know you longer . In your memory and all the troops i was moved today - remember for ever, not forgotten. Jenny Ruri (nee Eivers - grand daughter)

  • Poppa - only as I have grown older have I come to appreciate the sacrifice made by you and your brothers and comrades in the War. I feel so proud and honoured that you went to war to ensure that our country remained free. I was 8 when you passed away. I wish that I had been older so that I could ask you about the war and show you my appreciation. I remember you as tall, kind and a lover of the sea. You always brought us whitebait and pipis and fish. I remember one time that you took Arthur and I to stay with you at Ohiwa. There was no electricity and we had a gas lamp. The stories of your horsemanship are legendary. How odd it must have been to go from Whakatane to Eygpt. I wonder if you took your own horse? I feel fortunate to have known you when I was a child. I will always think of you and uncle Herbert and all the men who went to war on Anzac Day. Ka nui te aroha. Francie x
