For conspicious gallantry and devotion to duty. At 1pm on 3rd December 1917, during the attach on Polderhoek Chateau, when the advance of our troops was held up by the hevy hostile fire, this NCO with a few men overcame one of the enemy's strong points, and advanced to a point between the Chateau and a large pillbox (18): at this time they were about 100 yards in advance of the rest of the line although cut off and unassisted, Corporal Tempero consolidated and held to his ground. This NCO showed the greatest personal courage and by his leadership and determination, was able to beat off three bombing counter-attacks. He did not withdraw from his position until he received orders from an officer and suceeded in getting his men through the main line without any casualties.'
