  • Ernest Layburn was wounded in 1918 while his unit was attempting to defend the village of Meteren near Hazebrouck (Battle of the Lys).

    His brother, William John Alfred Layburn, MM, was killed in action 28 August 1918 while serving with the Australian Imperial Forces.

    The law firm he established in Christchurch in 1932 continues to flourish today as Layburn Hodgins. AWMM
