  • Fox served at tretham army camp as part of permanent staff.
    Sent too western front 1917 ( the Somme)
    Would ride a dentist bike forward too front line and give dental treatment in bunkers .
    At night in the rear the dental rest area often under heavy shell fire .
    May have won a returned soldiers land ballot in the Catlins but he and his family of wife and 3 daughters forced off due too hunger
    His daughter betty fox back brief on WW1 as a child in Dunedin
    " always hungery , always cold "
