  • Cyril McGonagle was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew McGonagle, of South Rd., New Plymouth, New Zealand.

    Embarked Alexandria to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, Gallipoli, 12 April 1915.
    Reported missing, 8 August 1915, but on HS 'Dunluce Castle'; disembarked Malta, and admitted to St George's Hospital, 12 August 1915 (diarrhoea); transferred to Egypt, and attached to Base Depot, Mustapha, 30 August 1915.
    Embarked Alexandria, 18 October 1915; rejoined unit, Mudros, 28 October 1915.
    Attached to Anzac Advanced Base, 1 December 1915; rejoined Bn, Gallipoli, 7 December 1915.
    Disembarked Alexandria, 29 December 1915 (general Gallipoli evacuation).
    Embarked to join the British Expeditionary Force, France, 6 April 1916.

    Attached to NZ Base Depot, 7 December 1916; appointed Acting Lance Corporal whilst employed as Regimental Policeman, 31 March 1917.
    Found guilty, 9 May 1917, of drunkenness: deprived of Lance stripe, 9 May 1917.
    Rejoined Bn, in the field, 27 May 1917.
    Found guilty, 28 May 1917: awarded 7 days' Field Punishment No 2 [no durther details on file).
    Killed in action, 8 June 1917.
