  • While researching I came across the name of John Baxter a distant cousin. John enlisted in 1917 and was sent as a reinforcement to France where he was killed in action at bloody Passchendaele. John was 40 years old when he went overseas - NZ was desperately short of able bodied men to send to the slaughter. New Zealand ( and Australia ) have never really recovered from this.
    Rest in peace John -you are remembered.
