  • Embarked 14 July 1917; transshipped to HMT 'Norman', 28 August 1917; disembarked Plymouth, England, 24 September 1917.
    Proceeded overseas to France, 11 January 1918.
    Detached to 179th Tunnelling Company, 11 May 1918; rejoined Bn, in the field, 7 June 1918.
    Wounded in action, Bapaume, 16 August 1918 (shrapnel wound, head); admitted to 32nd Stationary Hospital, 19 August 1918; transferred to England, and admitted to No 2 NZ General Hospital, Walton-on-Thames, 23 August 1918; transferred to NZ Convalescent Hospital, Hornchurch, 10 September 1918.
    Commenced return to New Zealand on board HT 'Zealandic', 18 January 1919; discharged (no longer physically fit for War Service on account of wounds received in action: gun shot wound, right shoulder).
    Total war service: 1 year 334 days (of which 1 year 231 days was abroad)
