  • Aged 22 years and 5 months at enlistment; attested at Awapuni 7 June 1916.

    Embarked for Plymouth 26 July 1917 and trained at Bulford and Ewshot before embarkation for France 28 October 1917. After a month in transit camp he joined the No 1 NZ Field Ambulance.

    He served as a stretcher bearer with the New Zealand Medical Corps

    In 1918 he suffered greatly from illness. His service record notes diarrhoea/ dysentery and his son, Bruce, remembers his father talking about being taken out to England with enteric fever. The family also have a photograph of Robin standing in front of an unidentified hospital.

    Returned to New Zealand aboard SS Chupra, leaving UK 8 June 1919.

    He served in New Zealand for 1 year 77 days and overseas 2 years 3 days.
