    • Son of Alexander and Catherine MacKenzie of Lochbroom, Ross-shire, Scotland.

      Photo of the group sitting in front of the sphinx also published in the Auckland Weekly News 6 May 1915, p 44 Col. A, but the pyramids and sphinx were cropped out. Family date the photograph to probably February 1915 as Frater has Sergeant stripes and was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant sometime shortly after 26th February 1915.

      An account of his death is written in The Auckland Regiment.

      Enlisted under the name MacKenzie, but name is also recorded as McKenzie

      Attended Auckland University College (now the University of Auckland). AWMM
    • Jock never married and died without children. His brother Alexander (who also served in WW1 - they were at Gallipoli at the same time) survived the war. He named his son after Jock (Jock Ross Mackenzie). Public - Sarah - Other Relative - 24 April 2015 - Family papers; diaries; oral history
