    • Obituary: Auckland Grammar School Chronicle. Second Term, 1918. AWMM
    • Private Rupert Whitworth McKENZIE, whose name appeared in a recent casualty list as killed in action on March 30, was an old Whangarei boy, being the only son of Inspector N. R McKenzie, at one time headmaster of the Whangarei Public School. Private McKenzie was educated at this school and the Whangarei High School and on his parents removing to Auckland he attended the Grammar School there. Taking up teaching he went to the Training College and at the time of enlisting was teaching at Komata. He left with the 16th Reinforcements and saw service with the Imperial Camel Corps. A dual bereavement has thus overtaken Inspector McKenzie, as his daughter Sybil died at Birkdale, Auckland, on the 27th ult.
