  • My maternal Grandfather I never knew him that well, as he was wrapped up in his memories of war and the only peace 'Charlie' got was down at the RSA in Pukekohe where he could talk about the nightmares with his mates. We have known no war, cannot imagine the horror of it and the bravery it took to survive it. No wonder I only saw him from a child's perspective, as a 'broken' man who sat on a stool at the front door looking into the distance, he fought for my Freedom, for that I will remember him.
