  • Son of Ellen (Nellie) (nee Jones) Jackson and William Thomas Mulligan. His parents divorced and Ellen came to New Zealand with two young children Nellie Jean Mulligan and William Hawton (source family informant)

    He married twive. His first wife was Isobel nee Williamson, they married in 1921; she died in 20 November 1923. He married again Ellen nee Kennedy on the 31 December 1929.(source family informant)

    William attended Southland High School from 1911-1913. On his return from War he taught at Nightcaps School in 1919. He continued his education and is listed as graduating from Canterbury University with a Diploma in Education, 1926.

    He moved in the South - in 1928 he was in Geraldine where he married his second wife Ellen. By 1935 he was living in Temuka., then in Lyttleton in 1938; and by 1953 William was Headmaster at Kaikoura High School. (source family informant) AWMM
