  • MILITARY SERVICE BOARD. Jan 1917 - William Manson stated that his age was 29 years, and was in partnership with his brother Henry as waggoners. He had nothing to add to his brother's statement, except that he would like to wait till the end of the wool season. Only one of them could go, one had to look after the teams. — To Mr McLaren They had talked it over, and he William was prepared to go at the end of the wool season, about four months from now. To Captain Walker: They had a contract with the settlers to cart their wool for them. There was no agreement it was a case of taking each others word. -There was no binding contact - To Mr McLaren: One could not go now, as there was no one to drive the team. The chairman stated that the Board decided that in the case of William Manson the appeal was dismissed, provided Capt Walker obtained leave of absence for him until May 31, and the case of John Manson was adjourned sine die and granted exemption from military service in the meantime, provided he reported to the group commander on stated occasions that he was in the same occupation, and provided William Manson was passed fit for active service.
