    Dardanelles Public - Robert Christopher - 7 October 2016 - Family Papers

My Great Grandparents received a letter from his father which I came across recently. It reads:

    Warren View
    Gloucester Road
    Kingston Hill
    Surrey
    September 9th, 1915
    Dear Mrs James,
I am writing to express our deep gratitude for your son's (Christopher's) assistance to our boy when the latter was laying wounded and helpless at the Dardanelles during the fighting on the 21st August.
My boy, whom I saw in hospital today, tells me that Christopher, also wounded, crossed over an exposed space under heavy fire and dragged him to a spot of comparative safety, probably saving my son's life through that act of unselfishness and gallantry.
Would you kindly let me have your son's full regimental address, in order that we may write to him and thank him, however inadequately.
I understand that your boy's wound is a laceration of the hand and probably not serious.
Have you good news from him?
    Believe me, sincerely yours,
    D A Leak
