    The death occurred at Ohinemutu on Saturday of Hamiora Parakuka, a descendant of elders of both Ngati Whakaue and Ngati Rangiwihi and a prominent figure in the Ohinemutu and Awahou maraes in recent years. Deceased who was 40 years of age at the time of his death, was one of the first to join the Maori Pioneer Battalion during the Great War and left New Zealand with the rank of Lieutenant, serving for about two years at the front.
