Finding of court of enquiry to be a 'Prisoner of war in the hands of the Turks', Alexandria, Egypt, 26 September 1916. Officially reported to be a prisoner of war, Afion Karahisar POW Camp, Turkey, by New Zealand Records Office, London, 30 October 1916. 'Lt Alsopp was sent out to Abu Raml on 3 August in command of a patrol of which Trooper McCleod was a member. It was arranged that in the event of anything going wrong he was to fall back on Hod-el-Enna where there were Light Horse outposts. Telephone communication was maintained with the patrol until about 2200 that night. Firing began about 2300 and went on all night. Another patrol was sent out but could not get in touch with Lt Alsopp. The patrol did not return. On 5 August the ground was searched. Traces of the enemy columns could be seen. At Oghratina on 8 August a board was found on which was written 'Lieut Allsop AMR a gentleman, now a P of W has eaten in our battery'.'
