David McLeod was the son of Hector and Isabella McLeod, Hillgrove, Otago.
Embarked Wellington, 26 July 1917. Admitted to ship's hospital, 9 September 1917 (influenza); discharged to duty, 14 September 1917. Disembarked Plymouth, England, 24 September 1917, and marched in to 4th Reserve Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, Sling Camp.
Proceeded overseas to France, 26 October 1917; joined 2nd Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, in the field, 11 November 1917, and posted to 8th Company.
Wounded in action, 20 February 1918 (gas shell, mustard), admitted to No 3 NZ Field Ambulance, and transferred same day to No 2 Canadian Casualty Clearing Station; to 55th General Hospital, Boulogne, 21 February 1918; to England, 7 March 1918, and admitted same day to No 1 NZ General Hospital, Brockenhurst; transferred to NZ Convalescent Hospital, Hornchurch, 14 March 1918; to NZ Command Depot, Codford, 22 June 1918; to Reserve Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, Sling Camp, 1 August 1918.
Proceeded overseas to France, 18 September 1918; rejoined Bn, in the field, 23 September 1918.
Killed in action, 23 October 1918.
