    • Son of William and Isabella McLeod, of Centre Waipu, Auckland, New Zealand.

      Killed in action while on lookout duty on Walker's Ridge. When Trooper McLeod was killed , his friends Murdoch Finlayson and Sandy Donaldson from his regiment, went down to the beach and collected white stones to cover his grave. ( Quoted from Murdoch's diary and also 'Bloody Gallipoli - The New Zealanders Story" by Richard Stowers p.334 )

      Embarked on board HMNZT No 8 'Star of India' and departed Wellington, 12 October 1914. Disembarked Egypt, 4 December 1914.
      Killed in action, shot by enemy whilst engaged in lookout work in trenches on Walkers Ridge, 1:00pm, 12 June 1915.
      Place of burial reported to be 'Walkers Ridge, 50 yards northeast of Captain Alfred Bluck's grave and beside the grave of 13/678 Trooper William A. Corleison', report signed by Captain Ferdinand Wood, adjutant, Auckland Mounted Rifles Regiment,13 June 1915.

    Trooper Neil Kenneth McLEOD, reported killed in action on June 12, was 21 years of age and the youngest son of Mrs W McLeod of Waipu. He was one of the first to enlist in the Waipu district and was attached to the 11th, North Auckland Mounted Rifles, Main Body. A brother, Colin D McLeod, left with the fourth reinforcements.
