    • Son of James and Catherine Falconer, of Ettrick, Otago

      Embarked Wellington, 5 April 1917; disembarked Devonport, England, 11 June 1917, and marched in to Sling Camp.
      Confirmed in rank as Sergeant on passing exam, 9 July 1917.
      Proceeded overseas to France, 23 July 1917; marched in to Base Depot, Etaples, 27 July 1917.
      Joined 1st Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, in the field, 30 August 1917.
      Killed in action, Belgium, 2 October 1917.

      Parents: James and Catherine Falconer, Ettrick, Otago AWMM
    • James and Catherine initially lived at Willowbridge, Waimate, South Canterbury then later the family moved to the Speargrass Flat hotel, at Bald Hill Flat, south of Alexandra, Otago. That was where James died and Catherine tried to run it with help from her family. The eldest daughter lived in Ettrick after her marriage at the hotel, her father never did.
