My Father came back from the Pacific with Malaria and spent many months in Hospital recovering. He resumed his teaching career and I was born in 1946 and I had no siblings. Dad was Headmaster at Whangaehu School near Wanganui when he became ill with cancer, I was at Secondary School and he spent the next few years suffering. When I was 20 he passed away on 6th Nov 1965 leaving Mum a widow and she died in 2012 aged 101 years. My Dad never spoke about his time in the Pacific.
