He kept a diary for the first part of the journey but seemed to have got bored with it and filled some of the book with entries on accounting and economics. He was training to be an accountant at the time. He arrived in England and was stationed at Sling the NZ army camp in Wiltshire. Soon after his arrival he contracted Influenza, which was rampant at the time, and was some time recovering. He told us a story about how, when he recovered, he and a couple of others went into Winchester to see the cathedral, and while in the grounds, they spotted a senior officer walking around so they quickly hid behind some grave stones. Perhaps they were there without leave. My father was saved from action on the Western Front because of his illness and the war ending sho Your reason for reporting this contribution Please enter your reason Your name Please enter your name Your email address Please enter your email address Please enter a valid email address Please verify that you are not a robot Cancel
