He was born 8th November 1914 in Wellington NZ Left NZ in January 1940 Fought on Crete and was captured by the Germans on the 28 April 1941 followed by imprisonment firstly at Corinth. 3 week train journey cramped in cattle trucks on rail, finally arriving in Austria and POW life at Stalag XVIIIA. Returned to NZ in October 1945 follwing three months rest and recuperation in England and Scotland. Married 6 October 1947 to Ann Traynor Heffernan at Nelson. Died on the 3rd January 1992 at his home in Eltham. Is buried along with my mother in the Hawera Cemetery.
