I have fond memories of my grandfather Nopera. He was very generous & kind to me. He also disciplined us when we needed disciplining. On one occasion we went to his house in Tikapa, Ruatoria and he took us (his grandchildren) on a cart pulled by a horse. We rode down to the beach to collect driftwood for the fireplace. He hit the horse very hard with his whip and the horse farted loudly. Then he hit the horse even harder and he swore at the horse saying "pokokohua". We his grandchildren were in hysterics laughing. That was a fun memory of our granddad. He came to Auckland to live with us and he used to walk from our house near Mountfort park to Southmall. I would walk with him to church. The church was close to town. He fed me at night with chocolates when I slept with him. He named me after his wife "Ani" who had died.
