My father was too unwell to fly (pleurisy) so they found a replacement pilot. Their plane was shot down over Holland and all the crew were killed. My Dad was waiting at base for them to return-they never did.Donald had an cousin who lived on the Island of Sark -Sylvia Lamb. Sylvia moved to London and lived out the war residing in Brown's hotel. Sylvia was incredibly kind to so many of the servicemen and my father remembered her fondly. Sylvia had given the crew a silver flask which she had inscribed with their names (using a diamond ring). Years after the plane crash, a farmer in Holland found the flask in his field. It was returned to Dad as the only name on the flask who had survived.
