Note
I have a copy of the original headstone for Second Lieutenant George Henry Prentice, one the family placed on his grave. As in 1970 CWGC wanted all soldiers to have their regimental headstones on soldiers graves, I did notice when doing the photography at Featherston, hard to believe, but true, there were two CWGC headstones for George! I asked Peter Francis over at CWGC in Maidenhead to sort it out, reply was, someone had put the incorrect title on his headstone, it wasnt Second Lieutenant.. so two headstones for him.. and only one grave and they were not near each other!!! I am researching into the background of each soldier buried at Featherston, have met up with descendants to his sisters family as George never married, some are in Masterton. We also included him in Anzac Concert in Masterton some years back.
