Note
Major Samuel Alexander Grant was my Great Great Uncle, Mum's Father, Jack Grant's, Uncle. Growing up I heard stories from my Grand Father about the magnificent deed carried out by Uncle Sam, (as we called him), on the 7th August, 1915, leading the attack of the Auckland Infantry Battalion at Chunuk Bair. I have a copy of the full length photo of the head shot above, the original photo, the MiD certificate, and other items were donated to the Waiouru Military Museum by Mums Brother, Jack Grant. I also have copies of his MiD certificate, his Dress Sword and belt buckle and other items from the Boer War Uncle brought back with him. Last year by sheer chance, I purchased Uncle Sam's named miniature Boer War Medal, and First World War Medals, including the MiD Laurel Leaf. I believe what Uncle did that day and the sacrifice he and others made should never be forgotten. Lest We Forget.
