My Grandmother, Ngaroimata Henare Apatari Porou, mourned the death of her brother all her life. His full length photo dressed in army regalia hung over the fireplace of our family home. Not even knowing that they would never ever meet again made it doubly sorrowful for her is the coming years. She named one of her sons after her beloved brother, he in turn passed the name down to his son and then to his grandson. So Tamanuhiri lives on for us. I will be visiting Dantzig Cemetery in September 2018 to pay my respects to our Granduncle on behalf of our wider whānau.
