Note
James Harcus was part of the Australia and New Zealand Army Corps, ANZAC, who landed near Ari Burnu, now known as ANZAC Cove on the Gallipoli peninsula on 25 April 1915. He served just 9 days before suffering a Gun Shot wound to his right foot and was eventually invalided home to NZ on the Willochra troopship, arriving on 30 October 1915.
After his discharge on 17 February 1916, he resumed work for NZ Railways and married Fanny Louisa Stratton on 25 April 1917.
James volunteered for military service at the beginning of WW1 and although his 'war' was brief, he will always remain a hero as he fought at one of the worst places to fight in WW1, and survived!
