W.H.Parkes. I think of you today 100 years after Gallipoli and thank-you for your contribution. You were about my age now as you headed off to war leaving behind your beautiful wife Maude and young family. It must have seemed strange to return to the land of your birth (in 1864) having grown up in New Zealand trained as a doctor and built a life and beautiful home for yourselves here. Even harder must have been trying to provide organization and medical care amongst the chaos of WW1. I hope you would be proud of the legacy you left with 3 of your great-grandchildren from my family training as doctors. We grew up hearing about your medals and your work and always knew we had the medical profession in our family. At the dawn service today at the rising of the sun we said and meant "we will remember you.."
