In memory of my much loved Grandfather Reg. He had a huge impact on my life and when pushed would talk about the war in Europe. A kind and gentle man who had a quick wit, a warm smile and always a rolly cigarette in his mouth. I visit his grave in Palmerston North when passing through and gain strength in the memories he left with me. Take a bit of honour in the fact that he was promoted to glory on my 23rd birthday. A record of his wartime journey can be found in the publication: New Zealand Cyclist Corps. The Great War 1914-1918 published by The Officers in 1922 by Whitcombe and Tombs Limited. Of particular note is a photo of him on page 104. He is in the middle of the back row holding the rugby ball in the photo titled O.M.R and Cyclists Combined Football Team. We will remember them.
