Edmund was my Grandfather, I am the youngest of his 11 Grandchildren.. He was such a handsome guy, he wrote many letters home to Nana, including letters to his boys. Encouraging them to do well at school and talking about the things they would do when he came home. He wrote very graphic letters about the battles he fought in, mentioning names of mates he had come across from his village, Weber. Dannevirke. His description of trench life and advances on the front line give a clear picture of the terrible conditions they had to put up with. Losing mates during battles, so devastating for him. After being wounded in battle and being sent to hospital in London he writes back to Nana two days later to describe how he was injured and the tough, crawl to the trench then the journey to get to help for his injuries. Unknown to him he is telling Nana all about the battle that was to earn him
