My grandfather was discharged from the British Army when he was injured, but he then joined the Anzacs and carried on fighting. He was sent to all the middle eastern war zones sailing on the troopship SS Makoia. In civilian life he was a Marine Fireman, born in Birkenhead, Cheshire (now Merseyside). He is buried in the Anzac cemetery in Karori, New Zealand. He had one son, Richard, born in Birkenhead (my father). Our tree can be viewed on ancestry.co.uk.
