In memory of a wonderful grandfather, just one of many whose life was never the same after their experiences of conflict and war. He never talked very much about it but what he did relate was so very sad and really beyond the comprehension of those who had no first hand knowledge. Particularly distressing for him on his return was when his mother turned away in tears at his injuries. For all he had seen and the mates he had lost he remained a gentle man and is still missed nearly 40 years after his passing.
