Richard Gavigan

Richard Gavigan sold his farm at Hunterville, New Zealand, to enlist and follow his brother, Oliver Gavigan, overseas during WW1. Richard was a Vickers machine gunner. He was seriously wounded in France and returned to New Zealand. Oliver died of wounds and is buried in Belgium. Richard's son, Gordon Gavigan, was an artillery gunner, 144 Independent Batallion, during WW2. He served throughout the Pacific including Guadalcanal and Nissan Island.
