Austin Lindsay Morrison
Date Posted
On September 9th 1916 Austin, who was a brother of my grandfather, wrote his last letter before taking active part in the Battle of the Somme:- 'If anything should happen to me try and bear it Mother, as cheerfully as possible, just for my sake. I can't write any more, there is a great deal I would like to say but don't know how to; I send my fondest love to all and hope to meet you all again. Farewell now Mother mine, with fondest love from your son Austin.xxxxxxxx Austin died in that battle. He was one of 15 children, but that would not have made it any easier for his mother Mary Bridget to bear. Two other brothers Arnold and Stanley also served.
