Martin Mitchell is my maternal great grandfather. His son Remy is my mum Roselines father. Papa Martin married Taitapu Tavita a woman from Rurutu but has links to Takitumu and Te au O Tonga in Rarotonga. Martins Father was Allen Mitchell from Texas USA and his mother Roimata was from Ngaputoru. Martin and Taitapu had 9 children but only 5 had issue. Teau, Remy, Teremati, Vaine and Pio. He and his sons were blacksmiths like Martins father and brothers. They also baked and sold bread and were a very enterprising family. Our Papa Martin came with the 3rd Rarotonga Contingent along with his older brother John. They both attested on the 12th March 1918 and sailed to Egypt together. Both brothers survived the war and on return John went back to his place of birth - Tahiti and died there while our Papa died in Rarotonga.
