His first wife was Roma Tohu Koni who passed away during his active duty in WW2. Wiremu Koni later married Angela Barber Koni and begat Margaret Koni. After Angela passed away Wiremu Koni married Rutuina Barber Koni, sister to Angela. They had ten children together - Violet (Palmer) Koni, Mary Goretti Harrison, Remehio Witahua Koni, Teresa Josephine Koni, Patrick Koni Ngakuru, Gabriel Lesley Koni, Aroihi John Koni, Sarah Agnes Koni, Daniel Koni, Francis Koni.
