Hello Carolyn and other members of the Callow family.
I am a scout leader at the Brooklyn 1909 Scout Group in Harrison St, Brooklyn. Our hall dates from 1931 and we understand that Horace was among the scouts who first used the hall when it opened. Horace went on to be a Scout Master, and we believe he held that role until he departed for military service.
Our Scout Hall features a beautifully framed photograph of Horace in Air Force uniform, and on the reverse of the photo we have a brief story about Horace, and his military service; kindly put together by one of the Scout Leaders from the 1990s.
Each year when we tell the Anzac story to our Scouts, we acknowledge Horace Callow, and recognise his service as an example of living out the Scout Promise "on my honour, I promise to do my best, to do my duty to my God, the [King] and my country.......
