As Wilf was my uncle we recéived copies of his frequent letters whilst he was training in Canada via Wilf's wife Sally. One of these letters described how he was in a group who decided to got to see the Niagara Falls. They were in a car that had its gear shift on the steering column. It was the first time any of them had ever seen the new fangled gadget. After they had completed their Canada based training they were moved to England. On one of their early, (perhaps the first) training flights there, their aircraft unfortunately flew into a hill and all the crew were killed. What a waste of lives! I have a recollection of seeing the telegram advising of his death. In those days they were hand delivered messages and were edged in black for that sort of news. In 1967 my wife Jean and I visited Buxton cemetery where their graves are. It was a well kept place.
